Tape is a proven medium for backing up data. Experience shows, however, do not run many backups from errors: the tape backup takes too long or stops altogether, the data recovery in case no longer legible. Main causes of these errors are often the drive has problems, problems with the tapes or a combination of these two causes.
The ReadVerify Appliance (RVA) of Crossroads proactively examine the quality of the data backup system. The RVA monitors and evaluates the quality of the tapes and allows dazzle statements about the performance and utilization of tape drives.
The Crossroads RVA assess the quality of the tape media over their entire lifetime. The results are compared with user-defined policies, notifies the administrator when suspect tapes. These tapes can then be replaced before the backup process is hampered.
The ReadVerify appliance generates reports and alerts the relevant persons on the basis of the administrator-defined limits. Parameters to be monitored, are inter alia "Hard" and "soft" read / write, drive and library firmware versions, drive performance, assignment and utilization. Clearly presented through an intuitive Web console shows the RVA with the help of various graphs the condition and the correlation of tapes and drives.
Benefits at a glance:
No backup withdrawal due to tape problems
Shorter backup times
Optimized resource utilization
Extended life of existing hardware
Reduced spending on backup media
Fast Return on Investment
Seamless and easy integration into existing backup environment
Use in vendor, heterogeneous environment
The reports of the RVA and the associated analysis can be utilized as a service.
