The RAID system provides, when configured with 16 HDDs à 1,0 TB (striped), a maximum gross capacity of 16 TB. Depending on requirements, the administrator can tune the system to speed or - in the form of redundancy - optimize towards security.
Hard extensions can be either in the existing RAID configuration, or integrated as a new network drive in parallel add. The hard disk drives are hot-swappable and can be dynamically without interrupting operations and expand online and exchange. A peculiarity of the ICEBOX is the support of snapshot-on-the-box, regardless of the operating system or server.
For system integration, two SCSI interfaces are available. Alternatively, there is the ICEBOX with Dual Loop FC 4 Gb interface. In this configuration allows the ICEBOX as arbitrated loop or switched fabric device operating in a SAN.
As a further variant, the ICEBOX is also offered as an iSCSI solution, or with 2 x SAS host connections. Hard drives, fans, power supply and temperature are continuously monitored and resolved in an appropriate incident reports. The administration can be transferred via RS232 or via a Web browser.
With the Web browser configurations may be used to transfer the error messages via SNMP or SMTP as the e-mail or SMS messages are created. For WINTEL clients can receive information via pop-up window.
The monitoring of the system is independent of host and operating system, which allows running the ICEBOX in heterogeneous networks. The ICEBOX no driver or software components must be installed.
IceCube is quiet and can be used mobile and flexible due to the compact size. IceCube is either as U320 SCSI / S-ATAII RAID solution available and can be used as direct-attached storage system (DAS), or alternatively be used with Gb / s-ATAII as an iSCSI target (SAN) storage.
